I salute you my brother and sister veterans. This is a day that makes Americans proud and sad. It makes us proud because of the courage of our veterans. It makes us sad because of the death of so many of our fighting men and women. Wars will always be with us. We are fighting two wars right now.
The war I fought in was Vietnam when I was nineteen. Nineteen was the average age of Americans fighting in Vietnam. It was the youngest average age of fighting Americans in any war since the Revolutionary War. I saw action in a 105 towed howitzer battery with the 1st Cav Division Air Mobile.
Fifty eight thousand Americans died in Vietnam. I was one of the lucky ones. I made it back. Vietnam will always be with me.
