Romeo et Juliette

The Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre dancers seemed to be on a collision course with destiny as they wrapped their arms around theĀ familiar tale of “Romeo et Juliette” Thursday night at the Benedum Center.

Under the guidance of artistic director Terrence Orr, the company has transformed itself by nurturing a more theatrical attack, first with the multiple contemporary machinations of the jazz-inspired “Indigo in Motion,” then by working with a dramaturg on Orr’s “The Nutcracker,” and most recently chiseling the sharply hewn accents of Lauri Stallings’ style in “glint.”

They were all steppingstones to the dancers’ work in Jean-Christophe Maillot’s “Romeo et Juliett,” perhaps the finest ballet overall that PBT has presented and a notable production on any international scale…
