I spend a lot of time in bars drinking beer. I don’t spend as much time (or money) as I use to as a younger man but now as an older man bars are still part of my social network.
As a matter of fact, since I’m a life long bachelor and have no children the bars I go to in Pittsburgh where I live are my main social network. If I made church my main social network I’d be a hypocrite.
Even as a young man, I was sour on marriage because my father was a wife beater. But I can’t blame never getting married on my father. I don’t think I was ever marriage material. Bars have always been part of my social network. The Topless Dancer is about the kind of bar I use to go to and that you may know about, too.
How Important Is Sex In Building A Character?
June 3, 2009 — pittsburghflashfictiongazetteOne of the things a writer must do to make his or her fiction believable is to make the characters of a story believable. And just like real people, characters in a story should have several traits.
If a writer wants to emphasize the sexuality of his or her characters the characters still must be about more than just sex. Only in standard pornography are characters only about sex. Pornography has a long history and in the hands of a gifted writer pornographic fiction has been recognized as an art form.
The Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette does not publish pornography. But it does publish fully realized sexual characters like the ones you will find in The Topless Dancer.
