Use Words To Create A Movie In The Reader’s Mind

One of the most important things a writer can do is to use words to create a movie in the reader’s mind.  If the writer can make the reader “see” the story, the locale and the characters will come alive.

The writer of flash fiction, the very short story, postcard fiction, mini-fiction, and sudden fiction only has a few hundred words before the movie in the reader’s mind is over.  How does a writer use words to make this movie?  The writer makes the movie by using plenty of “concrete sense details” in the story and by writing about what the characters “do and say”.  In this way life, sexuality, American culture and male-female relationships can be captured clearly as in the story The Topless Dancer.
