All writers and bloggers know how important the beginning of a short story is. If the writing in the beginning of a story doesn’t work the reader will skip out. So, how can the writer keep the reader’s interest?
One thing the writer must not do is begin the story by explaining what the story is about. Why read the story if the first couple of paragraphs summarize the story?
Something the writer can do to get his or her story off to a strong start is to begin in the middle of some action that is going on.
Action usually means a scene with characters inter-acting through dialogue, dialogue that reveals character, relationships and the storyline. This will jump start your short story.
