The American people have spoken. 1,600 lives and trillions of dollars have been enough. That does not mean that Afghanistan will not cost the United States more lives and more trillions of dollars. We are not out of Afghanistan yet; but the speech that President Obama will make tonight at 8:00 PM, EST means this is the beginning of the end. Of course, the actual end will stretch far into the future.
But what always amazes the Old Soldier is how we as a society can come up with trillions of dollars to invest in a foreign country in a foreign war but we cannot come up with the money to invest in our own educational system or in our own infrastructure or in our own environment or in our own people.
