Flash Fiction Inspired by Brianna Frost Hogan

This Is Brianna Frost Hogan

Millions of young women upload videos of themselves performing sex acts.  Why do they do it?  The question of why some of them do it is what today’s story deals with.  The story explores a couple of reasons but probably not all of the reasons.  After all it’s just a short story.

Writing this kind of story is never easy.  It’s a true challenge for the serious flash fiction blogger and writer.  Before we get to the story, here is a flash article about creative writing.  I wrote the article before I became the Old Soldier.

While I was a graduate student at the University of Pittsburgh I taught one year of composition, one semester of creative non-fiction writing and one semester of fiction writing. It was while teaching fiction writing that I really hit my stride. See, I had never in my wildest dreams ever thought I’d be teaching college undergraduates. And one of my pet peeves was clichés. The dictionary defines a cliché as a: hackneyed phrase or opinion. My fiction writing students knew from the get go that if one of them turned in a paper with clichés in it I’d return that paper so fast that the student’s head would spin.

So, before you send a story to an editor make sure you eliminate all the clichés in it. If you don’t it’ll be a cold day in hell before you get published.

YouPorn Sex

It was the first hot day of the year in Pittsburgh. Students from the University of Pittsburgh sprawled in the grass sunbathing. The good-looking young man walked beyond the students and down a street to the crowded tables of a sidewalk cafe. A beautiful young woman waved at him from one of the tables. He sat at her table. A tall mixed drink was in front of her. A waitress took his order. The man and woman sat saying nothing. The waitress brought him a glass and a bottle of beer. The man poured some of the beer in the glass and drank it off. The man and woman sat looking at each other.

She said, “I fell in love with you because you were a wild man. Now you’ve become such a prude.”

“For not wanting to have sex on the Internet?”

“We won’t always be young.”

He finished the rest of his beer. He sat thinking, holding and watching his empty beer glass. He looked up at her, considering.

“All right,” he said.

“Really?”

“Maybe it’ll be fun.”

“Of course it’ll be fun. And we’ll make money. We’ll make lots of money. You know why?”

“Why?”

“Because we’re young. Because we’re beautiful. Because we’re good. I have a friend who makes a living from online videos.”

“What’s her name?”

“Brianna Frost.”

The End
