Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette

The Old Soldier has not published a new Guest Writer in months.  All the stories by Guest Writers that have been recently appearing on the Home Page are from the archives.

And now there are two ways to get published in the Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette, the short story writer’s Playboy Magazine.  There is the Anything Goes tab for non-fiction and the Submissions tab for flash fiction.  Both tabs are at the top of the page.

Hello, bloggers, readers, writers and my Flash Fiction Fanatics.  It turned out to be a sunny, mild day in Pittsburgh.  I walked to UPMC Shadyside Hospital right down the avenue to visit my 92-year-old mother.  We talked as she ate lunch.  The Steelers were on the television on the wall.  Mom is a long-time Steelers fan.  The Steelers won.  Mom and I had a good long talk.  I love and admire that old woman.  She has not had an easy life.  And through it all she has remained a good person.  That is a true sign of strength of character.

My father and I had a real love, hate relationship.  He was a wife beater.  He’s dead.

So, now the Old Soldier is stretched out on the sofa with a couple of pillows behind his head, jotting in his notebook, sipping on a plastic container of Turner’s Southern Style Sweet Tea, munching on some Cheez-It crackers and watching the Pats and the Chargers on television.  It’s a lazy man’s Sunday afternoon.
