Let Me Help Jump Start Your Creativity

Suffering from writer’s block?  Creativity down in the dumps?  Cheer up.  The Old Soldier has just what you need to get those old creative juices flowing again.

But first a tour of the neighborhood.

Hello, everyone!  The Old Soldier just came in from a walk around the neighborhood.  I always wanted to live in Oakland near the University of Pittsburgh ever since I was in my twenties.  I’ve lived in Oakland now for at least 30 years.  And even though today has so far been overcast (but warm,) the walk around the neighborhood made me happy.

There were lovely, sprawling, well-kept upper mild-class homes, some of them very old, with lawns and shrubs and plenty of trees full of leaves lining the sidewalks.

The leaves are turning red and yellow.  Some covered lawns and sidewalks and the streets.  Young people jogged and old people hiked.  The sights and sounds of the city were just what I needed to keep me in the good mood that I was already in.

Now I’m back in my shabby but comfortable apartment.  My creativity has definitely been jump started.  Let’s get yours jump started, too.

The Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette is the best resource that an aspiring writer could ever have.  And it’s free.  Look around at all the great stuff on this site.  The archives stretch back three years.  That’s three years of short stories, articles on blogging and writing and commentaries on life and the world we live in.

And it’s all free.  Oh, I already said that.

And when you’re ready to send your work out into the world, you will find the Old Soldier to be a supportive editor and a helpful friend.  At the top of the page are three departments that you can submit your work to.  Send Poetry, of course, is for poetry.  Submissions is for fiction and Anything Goes is for everything else.  Send me something.  And in the meantime, keep reading and keep writing that old “flash fiction.”

Now are you feeling better?
