The Very Best Strategy For Your Writing Success

I sit in a comfortable chair in the lobby of my apartment building and gaze out the ceiling to floor big windows at the activity on the avenue.  The sun shines and the high will be in the low 60s, one of the last nice days in Pittsburgh this year unless you like wintry weather and then you have a lot of nice days to look forward to.

It’s around noon and I’m going to Sonny’s Tavern for a couple of draft beers and to pick up a six-pack of beer before walking back to my apartment to begin another day of blogging; but I wanted to jot these few lines in my notebook first in order to post later on the Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette.

When I was a young writer, like most young writers, I was in a hurry for success.  To me, success as a writer meant publication, money and fame.

Now I’m 65 years old.  I have achieved success, but it is nothing like the success I envisioned when I was young.

Because of writing, I went back to school after being away from school after 25 years.  Because of writing I got a BA.  Because of writing I won a fellowship worth around $60, 000 that paid for my MFA.  And because of writing I published an Ebook that was favorably reviewed by The Pitt News and The City Paper and I published over 60 flash fiction stories and articles in print and online publications and now my blog averages more than 150 visits every day and that number is growing.

None of these things is what I thought of as writing success when I was a young writer.

But now that I’m 65 years old, I can honestly say, thank God I kept writing.  My advice to every writer who reads this post no matter what your age is, is to live your life the best you can and to just keep writing.
