Sexuality is part of the DNA of the Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette. The Old Soldier likes to say that sex is the most important thing in the world. Without sex there would be no literature, no politics, no science, no philosophy and no religion because there would be no people.
Without sex there would be no animals, insects or plants.
Without sex there would be no life. Period.
But sex does not take place in a vacuum. And since this publication deals with flash fiction, sex in a flash fiction story must be about more than just sex. If the Old Soldier is to leave you with one piece of advice as to how to write erotica, remember that the best stories about sex are not about sex at all. The best stories about sex are really about relationships.
So, when you write erotica, get the story first. Make sure the story is a relationship story. The sex should always be a metaphor for what is really going on in a relationship. Sex in a flash fiction story should never be just about sex.
