Writing: A Character In Search Of A Short Story

There’s a barber shop across the street from my apartment building.  I’ve been shaving my head for years in the shower; but sometimes I get lazy and my hair grows too long for me to shave it.  When this happens, I get a hair cut.

So, one morning several weeks ago I decided to get a haircut.  It was early in the morning, but the sign in the window said the shop was open.  I knocked on the door.  I heard someone unlock the door and then the door opened.

In front of me stood a tall, thin old man (older than me).  His front teeth were missing, he had short, receding white hair, snot ran from his nose and he sucked on a chicken bone.  I couldn’t wait to get my haircut.

His name was Mayfield.  He was a retired mail man.  He was 75 years old.  We had a great conversation and I got a good haircut (a bald head).

I’m still trying to find a short story to put Mayfield in.

Hello, my brother and sister bloggers, readers, writers and my Flash Fiction Fanatics.  It’s Friday morning and the Old Soldier has money in his pockets.  You know what that means: karaoke tonight at Del’s Bar and Italian Restaurant in Bloomfield (Little Italy) in Pittsburgh.  I’ve been doing my breathing and stretching exercises all week.

The Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette got 244 hits yesterday and it has over 1,400 hits so far this month.  You can’t beat that with a stick!
