“Face The Nation”: 30% Of Americans Live In Poverty

It’s nearly noon in Pittsburgh.  The Old Soldier just caught part of Face the Nation on television.  The commentator and his two guests pointed out that one in two Americans live in or near poverty.  That neither major political party is really addressing the issue.  That the middle class is disappearing.  That 1% of the population controls most of the wealth.  That poverty is threatening our democracy.  That poverty impacts Americans of all racial and ethnic backgrounds.

Stunning!

How’s everyone doing?

It’s a cloudy, chilly (high 51) day in Pittsburgh.  The Old Soldier is still happy over the great time he had at karaoke at Del’s last Friday night.  One of the things that I have learned about karaoke after all these years is that a singer must learn to fit his or her voice in with the music instead of trying to over power the music.  Too many karaoke singers think that by singing loud they are doing something.

All they are doing is sounding like a karaoke singer.

When the voice blends in with the music it sounds more like a record that you would hear on the radio.

The more that a writer thinks of the flash fiction story as a play, the more his or her flash fiction story will be able to capture a significant moment in time.  This is one of the secrets to writing the flash fiction short story.  Keep reading and keep writing that flash fiction.
