Woman As Art
Writers often submit erotica to the Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette. The Old Soldier has read and published some pretty good flash fiction erotica. I’ve also rejected several pieces of erotica.
The rejected stories usually have two things in common. The sex is violent or the writer forgets to tell a story or both. There is nothing I can do about the violence except to reject it; but “story” is a different matter.
Something seems to happen to the writers who submit unsuccessful erotica to this magazine. The sex is there and often it is well written; but nothing happens in the story. The story is just about sex and sex is not enough.
There must be a situation with a beginning, a middle and a resolution. Something, anything, must be different at the end of the story.
A boyfriend having sex with his girlfriend is not a short story. A boyfriend who performs cunnilingus on his girlfriend for the first time is a short story.

Hello hello hello, my Flash Fiction Fanatics from all over the world!
Man, it is hot outside. The Old Soldier just came in with some groceries and beer. It’s over 90 degrees and the streets are hot.
Yesterday, I finally got to see my younger brother who lives in an assisted living facility. I’m going to make visiting him part of my weekly routine. I can get in a good walk and re-engage with him. I’m such a hermit.
Recently, I also found out that one of my younger sisters who lives in Texas was told by the doctors that there was nothing more they could do for her. She’s been waiting for a kidney for eight years.
The Matriarch, my older sister and my youngest sister took a plane down to Texas. My sister with the failing kidneys is married. There is some discussion about bringing her home to Pittsburgh and putting her into a hospice here.
