The Old Soldier has just come in from a nice walk around the neighborhood on this mild (70), sunny afternoon in Pittsburgh.
I went to a local, small corner grocery store about three blocks away and picked up two bottles of Pepsi Wild Cherry and a large onion. I’m going to make spaghetti sauce later today.
I also picked up the latest issue of the Pittsburgh City Paper, a weekly that covers local politics and the cultural scene here in the city. This issue was the Best of Pittsburgh 2012 issue.
For best bar to karaoke, it picked Nico’s Recovery Room:
Grab the mike, belt out a boozy version of “Burning Down the House,” and feel the love from the amped-up crowd. At Nico’s, talent is secondary to enthusiasm. You could pick an introspective indie tune, but everybody at the bar wishes you’d go with “Hang On, Sloopy” or some deliciously craptastic Toto song. They want to sing, too.
