Experience A New Kind Of Short Story Blog For Writers

Welcome to my short story blog.  I’m the Old Soldier, the editor/publisher.  If you are open to good writing and brazen sexuality in the same online publication, you are in for a unique reading experience.

I’m a short story writer myself.  I know what a writer must go through to get his or her work done.  That’s why I publish the short stories of other writers.  That’s why this publication is a paying market.

But this publication is about a lot more than writing.  It’s about art.  It’s about life.

Welcome to the Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette.  As an editor/publisher, I’ve been influenced by many people.  At the top of the list are Andy Warhol, David Letterman, Hue Hefner and Lady Gaga.  Check out the front page and you will see exactly what I mean.

Keep reading and keep writing.

I’m almost done reading Light My Fire, My Life With The Doors by Ray Manzarek that I checked out from the public library.

In the 1960s, the medical community had yet to designate alcoholism as a disease.  By the time The Doors put out Strange Days, their second album, in 1967, Jim Morrison had begun his slide into alcoholism.  This was on top of the drugs he took, too; but the drugs didn’t seem to make him mean and self-destructive.  The alcohol did.

His band mates and the people who cared about him did not know how to help him.  When he drank too much he stopped being the Jim Morrison they knew.

Instead of being engaged in the music and in his poetry, he disengaged.  The band increasingly had to work around him.

On stage, the shaman finally shape-shifted into an over-weight hostile drunk.

We are left the myth, the promise and the music of a great rock and roll band: The Doors.
