Hello hello hello, bloggers, readers, writers and my Flash Fiction Fanatics.  It’s another overcast, dreary day in Pittsburgh and it’s going to be that way all week long.  But the Old Soldier is excited about this month being the third anniversary of the Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette, and I’m reporting for duty.

I hope that if you are a writer, you will find hope, inspiration and comfort here at the PFF Gazette as you struggle to produce work you are proud of.

Good morning, everyone.  Well, it’s almost noon.  Now that the Labor Day holiday is over we can get back to the business of reading and writing flash fiction.

55 Short Stories from the New Yorker

Yes, after two and a half years of publication, the Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette has gone over 2,000 posts.  And what do these postings consist of?  There are short stories by guest writers.  There are articles on blogging and writing.  There are commentaries on what is going on in the world.  There are poems.  There are literary, mainstream and erotic flash fiction stories by me, your host, the Old Soldier.

I think there are a couple of pieces of humor around here somewhere, too.

Everything on this blog is here to either inform or entertain you.  And if you are a writer, hopefully you will find comfort and inspiration as you work at the craft of writing well.

This is the Old Soldier blogging near the University of Pittsburgh.

How Safe Is Nuclear Power?

Internationally recognized symbol.

I have no doubt that nuclear technology has made nuclear power plants very safe.  The problem is, one mishap can cause a catastrophe.  And a catastrophe is always only a matter of time.

This is the lesson that we are learning from the disaster now taking place in Japan.

Hundreds of thousands of Japanese are now refugees in their own country.  Tens of thousands have had nothing or little to eat for days and starvation for thousands is a real possibility.
