It’s the Old Soldier here doing what bloggers do: surfing the web and working on his blog.
So far this month the Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette is averaging 725 pageviews every day. That’s down from last month. I’m really looking forward to next month.
Next month I’m going to publish the work of at least four other writers.
My goal as a blogger is to continue to offer insights into how to write flash fiction. And to publish the best examples of flash fiction that I can find.
Explore the site. There are over 3,200 pieces of content on the site. You’re sure to find something of interest.
This is a blog of serious writing and brazen sexuality.

Flash fiction is the reason that the Old Soldier publishes the Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette. Yes, a visitor to this magazine will find commentaries on the world we live in, articles on blogging and writing and photo studies of the nude female form. But without flash fiction, this publication would have no reason for being.
I like to say that this magazine is the online Playboy Magazine for short story readers and writers. That’s pretty accurate.
Flash fiction is a language all its own. It is the language of brevity. It is the language of conciseness. Above all it is the language of suggestion. There are plenty of examples of this second language on this blog.
Read. Study. Write.
The Submissions tab for flash fiction is at the top of the page.

The Old Soldier likes to argue that just because a piece of fiction deals with sex does not mean it should be written poorly, or that the writer should not give the same attention to description, action, concrete language, a believable storyline, realistic dialogue and characterization that is given to great literary fiction.
I know, I know that I’m asking a lot; but hey, if good writing was easy it would not be worth doing. And good writing is not easy.
So, where can you find examples of well-written fiction about sex? I’m so glad you asked that question. Click on the Sexy Stories tab at the top of the page. Do you write fiction about sex?
