Writers, write about what you know! You don’t have to make up fantastic situations full of strange characters in order to write good flash fiction. Just write about the things you have done and the kinds of people who you know.
Let’s use the Old Soldier as an example. I write about veterans. Guess what? The Old Soldier is a Vietnam War veteran. My flash fiction is full of people who like to drink. Guess what? The Old Soldier loves his beer. My flash fiction is full of college students. The Old Soldier has been a college student most of his adult life.
Okay, here’s a tough one. Some of my protagonists are women doing their first online adult videos. Do I know any women who have done an online adult video? (My niece Brianna Frost Hogan doesn’t count. I haven’t talked to her in over ten years.)
No, I do not know any women who have done an online adult video. But I do subscribe to an online adult video website.
My brother and sister flash fiction writers, write about what you know.
