Writers, You Do Not Have To Write About Sex

The Old Soldier can understand why a writer scanning the Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette would think that I publish only erotica.  Nothing could be further from the truth.

I publish erotica, mainstream and literary fiction, too.

So, keep that in mind.  Let’s make a good online magazine even better.  I can’t do it all on my own.

Hello hello hello, all my brother and sister bloggers, readers and writers from all over the world!  I’m still getting a lot of visits from Turkey.  And I’ve been getting a lot of visits from Greece, too.  Thank all of you so very much.  You bring tears of joy to the eyes of the Old Soldier.

Well, the Old Soldier has beer and he is ready for the weekend.  Keep reading and keep writing that flash fiction.  Be sure to check the front page for the latest updates.

Bloggers, We Are The True Media Of The People

Woman As Art

If you are a blogger, take a moment to pat yourself on the back.  It doesn’t matter at what level of blogging expertise you are at or how many hits you get every day.  The important thing is you’re in the game.

And what game is that?

The alternative media game.  You’re connected.  You’re not sitting on the shore.  You’re sitting on a lily pad smack dab in the middle of a communications revolution that has changed the world.  Be proud of the label “blogger”.

Bloggers, the Old Soldier salutes you!

Hello, world!

The Old Soldier did not have a good time at karaoke at Del’s last night.  For some insane reason management decided to hold karaoke outside on the side deck in the parking lot.  It was a warm, beautiful night to be outside; but not for karaoke.  You know, loud music outside at 10:30 p.m.

Well, I know why management did it.  It was to drum up more business.  But when you hold karaoke outside the sound dissipates and the neighbors don’t like it.

Someone called the police on us and we all ended up back inside in the bar where we should have been in the first place.

The financial markets are holding their breath over the outcome of the elections in Greece that are to take place Sunday.  My friends, we are on a slippery slope.  There are reports in the mainstream media that Greek citizens are taking their money out of the banks.

The last thing the global economy needs is a run on the banks.  Pay attention to whether or not citizens in other countries in Europe begin taking many out of their banks.

This is no joke.  A collapse of the Eurozone will affect all of us.

The Old Soldier has several pieces of chicken in the crock pot seasoned with salt, pepper, garlic powder and basil leaves.  I’m going to visit my younger brother in the assistant living facility where he lives and by the time I get back dinner will be ready.

Will Greece leave the Eurozone?  Will Spain and Italy default on their loans?  The Old Soldier is working-class and retired, but these are not idle questions for me or other Americans.

The global banking system is so tightly integrated that a European financial collapse will have a definite negative impact on the US.  How much of an impact?  Nobody knows.

Keep your eyes on the situation.

Hello, all my fans in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia and North and South America.  Enough of this gloom and doom.

It’s Friday and you know what that means.  The Old Soldier will be presenting his performance art (karaoke) at Del’s in Bloomfield (Pittsburgh’s Little Italy) tonight.

Karaoke gets the Old Soldier out of the house.

And I tell you what else will be getting the Old Soldier out of the house: The Big Idea Bookstore.  It’s just a few blocks from my apartment.  I’ve decided to become more involved in the store since it is carrying my only published book and because it is a cooperative which means it is owned by the workers.

The store is very involved with the community.  It shows low-budget films.  It has readings and it’s a cafe, too.  The Old Soldier has found another place to hang out.

You can’t beat that with a stick!
