Writers, Submissions Here Are Up 200%

It was not too long ago that submissions to the Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette were few and far in between.  That has radically changed.

Hello, I’m the Old Soldier, the friendly editor/publisher of this blog.  This magazine is over four years old.  There are over 3,000 pieces of content on the site.  On the site you will find erotic, literary and mainstream fiction.  This magazine is a paying market.  It publishes non-fiction and poetry, too.

Some writers still blindly submit inappropriate work.  For instance, stories about rape.  If these writers would actually do their homework and read some of the stories on this site they would see that yes there is a lot of sex going on, but no one is ever raped.  And these writers would also see that there are a lot of stories that have nothing to do with sex.  And the same writers would know that there are no stories of fantasy, horror or stories of the sci-fi genre.

(But the Old Soldier does not want to be too judgemental.  When I was an aspiring, young writer I blindly submitted stories, too.  Then I got older and wiser.)

And you would be surprised how easy it is for an editor/publisher to see that a writer has not read the submission guidelines.  That’s enough reason for rejection right there.

Now I’m getting more stories than I can absorb every month.  Some of them good, publishable stories.

So, if you are a serious writer only submit your best.  The days of easy acceptance are quickly coming to an end.

Writers, 3 Tips To Help Get You Published

Are you tired of rejection notices?  Maybe the Old Soldier can help.

Hello hello hello, my brother and sister writers!

The Old Soldiers knows what it’s like to be rejected and accepted for publication and he knows what it’s like to be an editor, too.

Never submit your work without first reading and then following the submission guidelines.  If the publication doesn’t have guidelines, fine; but if it does the editor will usually be able to tell right away whether or not you read the guidelines, or, if you did read them that you either decided to ignore them, or, you did not comprehend them.

To make a long story short, not following the guidelines is reason enough for rejection, period.

Then there’s the little matter of familiarizing yourself with what the publication publishes.  You don’t want to send articles on baby formula to Esquire Magazine.

And finally, you want to send in mistake-free content.  So, before you hit that send button you want to proofread, proofread and proofread.  This is the Old Soldier blogging from somewhere near the University of Pittsburgh.

Writers, Submissions Are Now Open For November 2012

The Old Soldier published three writers this month and he wants to publish three more next month.

When you get done reading this post make a quick visit to the front page and you will see the work of several guest writers.

Once your work (fiction, poetry or non-fiction) is accepted for publication it is stuck on the front page for several weeks.  This means that thousands of people will see your work; because the Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette gets over 600 hits every day and that number is growing.

Then your work will be rotated to the archives; but it does not stay in the archives.  It is constantly rotated between the archives and the front page.  And the Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette is a paying market.

You can’t beat that with a stick!

The submissions guidelines tab is at the top of the page.  Please follow the guidelines.  Not following the guidelines is enough for rejection.
