Public Television, Hot Dogs And Blackeye Peas

It’s around noon, on an overcast day in Pittsburgh that might get up to 52 degrees and may even have some sunshine.  The Old Soldier has public television on the TV.  It’s a show about the All-American hot dog.  There seems to be all kinds of hot dogs, covered with onions, relish, mustard, sauerkraut, chili, cheese…

The Old Soldier is eating a small bowl of the blackeye peas and ham hocks that he cooked in the crock pot.  The peas did not turn out as good as I hoped.  I put too much water in the crock pot.  So, I poured some of the liquid out and let the peas sit overnight, but they still are not as tasty as they can be and it’s all my fault.

Oh, well, you win some and you lose some.

College Football, Hot Dogs And Hospital Rooms

Heinz Field in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

I just came from Shadyside Hospital here in Pittsburgh visiting my 92-year-old mother.  My 80-something-year-old aunt and one of her sons and grandson were there.  I have not seen my aunt in years.  Before Mom ended up in Shadyside, which is only three blocks from my apartment, I had not seen Mom in years.  She stays with my oldest sister who lives outside Pittsburgh.

Mom seemed to be more lucid today.  Since today is a Saturday the hospital seemed empty.  I guess most of the staff has the weekends off.  During the week, the hospital is a mad house.

It has turned out to be a sunny, mild day and I enjoyed the walk to and from the hospital.  Right now as I blog I have college football on the television and I’m eating a hot dog with mustard and relish and drinking a Pepsi Wild Cherry.

It’s not yet 4:00 in the afternoon.  The sun is still shinning.  As soon as I post this I’m going for another walk.

If you are a writer send me something.  There is an Anything Goes tab and a Submissions tab at the top of the page.  Keep reading and writing that flash fiction.

Hot Dogs, Beer And Sexy Flash Fiction

Some Of My Old Amateur Photography

What a lovely day it has been.  The Old Soldier went for a nice walk on this warm, sunny day in Pittsburgh.  I had a beer at Sonny’s Tavern and then I walked to Armand’s, home of the biggest fish sandwich in Pittsburgh, and I bought a 40 oz bottle of Pabst Blue Ribbon.

I came back and browned a couple of wieners in olive oil in a frying pan on the stove and fixed myself two hot dogs with mustard and relish and drank the beer and did some blogging.

Now I’m finishing off the beer as I write this post.  Soon it will be time for the evening news on Public Television.  But first I think I will take another walk through the neighborhood and enjoy this weather.  It won’t be long before summer is gone.

Check out the flash fiction of the Sexy Stories tab at the top of the page.

Well, the Old Soldier has washed the dirty dishes, hung up clothes, taken a hot shower and now it’s time to see what the rest of the day brings.  It’s not 10:00 AM yet so I think I’ll run across the street to get some hot dogs  and a couple of bottles of Pepsi to go with my pork and beans and I’ll come back and do some more blogging.

The day is overcast and a light rain is falling.

Keep reading and keep writing.
