Hello, all my brother and sister bloggers, readers and writers from all over the world with a special shout-out to my fans in India! This blog always gets a lot of visitors from India.
How’s everyone doin’?
The Old Soldier is doin’ great. I got no aches and I got no pains. It’s a chilly (high around 39) day in the City of Pittsburgh, but there is plenty of sunshine. I just came back from a beer run (it’s around noon) to Armand’s in Bloomfield (Little Italy), which is a short walk from my apartment building in Oakland, for a cheap six-pack of Pabst Blue Ribbon beer; and now I’m sitting at my workstation drinking beer as I watch this woman in her late 40s or early 50s being gangbanged at BrokeAmateurs on my computer as I jot down this post on a piece of paper.
I wonder if that last sentence qualifies as being a run on sentence. Whatever. Life is good for the Old Soldier.
Karaoke
Well, I shot my financial wad on karaoke at Del’s this month, but I made it there for three Friday nights of karaoke which is an improvement over last month. The Old Soldier is getting better at managing his social security, veterans benefits and his pension.
And I got more material for the “Karaoke As Performance Art” series.

The Sunday Flash Fiction Story
“The Sunday Flash Fiction Story” series has alway been about the old stories of mine that I’ve published on this blog. Well, I’ve almost exhausted the supply.

So, to carry on with the series I’m going to start integrating the old stories of my contributors into the series. It’s going to be a win for me, for my contributors and for the readers of the Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette, the most exciting flash fiction publication on the Internet.

Writers Have To Be Vulnerable And Tough
Woman As Art
What’s this business about a writer being vulnerable and tough? It’s just the Old Soldier’s way of saying that to be a writer you have to be empathetic to the desires, needs and wants of other people; and at the same time you must have perseverance to be a writer.
You have to be empathetic so that you can create believable characters; you have to be tough to keep writing over the long haul.
It’s a simple philosophy, but oh so true.
