Hemingway’s Six-Word Flash Fiction Story

Part of the Hemingway myth goes that he wrote a six-word flash fiction story.

For sale.

Baby shoes.

Never worn.

If this is true the story has the classic form of flash fiction.  There is the setup, the buildup and the payoff.  And as any well-written flash fiction does, it implies a great deal.  It implies that there is a back story that in some way involves a man, a woman and the death of a new-born baby.

That my friends is great flash fiction.

Yes, the Old Soldier has the students at the University of Pittsburgh being naughty again.

Hello, my Flash Fiction Fanatics.  The Old Soldier is blogging away, looking over some of the content on this blog.  I thought this morning I would pull out a link for you to enjoy.

The story is about a public sex act.  I know that the majority of the readers of this blog are college educated single women.  Ladies, have you ever done a public sex act?  Have you ever found yourself in the situation that the young lady in the following story found herself in?

Hello, flash fiction readers and flash fiction writers.  In 2005 the Old Soldier published The Pittsburgh Stories (Including the novella: In The Garden Of Love).  The book was based on a sampling of flash fiction stories that I submitted to the graduate writing program of the University of Pittsburgh in 2002.

Not only was I accepted to the program but I was also awarded a K. LeRoy Irvis Fellowship that paid for all three years of my schooling along with a monthly stipend of over $900 for the entire three years.

That’s how much the University of Pittsburgh thought of the flash fiction stories that I submitted.  Those stories and many more along with a short novel are in the Ebook that is now available to the readers of this blog.

The Old Soldier never knows whether to us eBook or Ebook.

Hello hello hello, all my brother and sister bloggers, writers and Flash Fiction Fanatics.  The sun is trying to come out.  The Old Soldier still has some money from his pension check.  So, in a little while he’ll make the 15 minute walk to “Little Italy” for a cheap sick-pack of beer and come back to do more blogging and tweeting.

The Old Soldier streams all day long on Tweeter: old articles and short stories and a link to The Pittsburgh Stories for anyone who wants to download it.

The Pittsburgh Stories was published in 2005 when the Old Soldier was still a graduate student at the University of Pittsburgh.  Actually, the book was my dissertation.  It is a collection of 31 literary flash fiction stories and one literary short novel.  The collection is a perfect example of what the Old Soldier has been preaching about “show don’t tell” fiction.  For only $6.00 it’s a bargain and can be downloaded in minutes.  All major cards are accepted by the publisher.

Hello, my brother and sister bloggers, writers and Flash Fiction Fanatics.  The Old Soldier is getting a late start today.  It’s almost 11:00 AM, a lovely spring day in Pittsburgh.  Is it officially spring?  Doesn’t matter.  The sun is shinning and the temperature is comfortable.  You know what that means.  The Old Soldier has to get up from this workstation and out into the fresh air.  But first the Old Soldier must do his duty.
