Getting Cozy With Hunter S. Thompson

It’s not even 10:00 AM and this is already the second post of the day for the Old Soldier.  Hello all my brother and sister bloggers, readers, writers and Flash Fiction Fanatics.  The Old Soldier is on a roll.

The only thing on my schedule for today is to snail mail a small payment ($2.30) to AARP/MedicareRx Plans (UnitedHealthcare), my drug prescription plan.

I’ve already eaten breakfast (shrimp browned in extra virgin olive oil, a tomato and a slice of Italian bread) and done my breathing and stretching exercises.  So, it’s a hot shower and clean clothes for me and some reading of Hunter S. Thompson while I stretch out on the sofa with a couple of fat pillows under my weary head.

Maybe later today I’ll go out for some beer, but I have several cans of green tea with honey in the refrigerator to keep me happy.

While the Old Soldier relaxes and tries to come up with another post worth reading, why don’t you explore the site.  There are over 2,600 pieces of content on this site.  To experience what the Old Soldier means when he says that this magazine is about “serious writing and brazen sexuality,” be sure to read “The $2,000 Payday” which is stuck to the Front Page.

Read.  Study.  Write.

Karaoke: Trying To Hold On Until Friday Night

Medicare keeps taking money out of my Social Security check even though I’ve enrolled in the State Health Insurance Assistance Program which is suppose to reimburse me for what Medicare takes out of my SS check.  Well, the assistance program is a little slow on the draw so my Social Security is always short.

This situation has me trying to hold on to money for Friday night karaoke at Del’s Bar and Italian Restaurant in Bloomfield (Little Italy).

A flash fiction writer does not live by words alone.  I need my karaoke.  Well, the good news is the Department of Veterans Affairs sent me a letter saying it was moving ahead with my application for a military pension.

You can’t beat that with a stick!

Now enough about the Old Soldier.  I will soldier on.  How are all my bloggers, readers, writers and my Flash Fiction Fanatics doing on this football Sunday?

There is a new editorial change here at the Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette.  I think from now on I’m going to stick three stories to the Home Page.  The stories will be changed periodically.  This should give my readers more exposure to the fine fiction on this blog.

And speaking of fine fiction, there is a Submissions tab for flash fiction at the top of the page.

Writing: The Mundane Details Of Life

The Old Soldier

The Old Soldier has been caught up in the mundane details of life all day.  It started this morning.  I went over the paper work that I filled out yesterday for my military pension again, making sure all the questions that were supposed to be answered were answered, the necessary copies of records were attached and everything that was supposed to be signed was signed.

Then I put everything in the mail.

Then I got on the phone with Medicare and went around and around in a circle trying to find out who my Personal Care Provider was and where was my base hospital.  No progress was made there.  I’ll try again tomorrow.

I also need to know when I will be reimbursed for the money that Medicare is taking out of my Social Security check.  I need that money to pay my bills.  I’ll try again tomorrow to get that information.

And I tried to find out some information from the VA, but could not.  I’ll try again tomorrow.

That’s life.

Now it’s time to do some blogging.

If you are a writer and you write flash fiction, I would like to see your work.  The Submissions tab is at the top of the page.  Good luck.
