Television: Cable Or Converter Box?

The Old Soldier refuses to get cable for two reasons.  Free television satisfies my needs and I can’t afford to pay for cable anyway.  And even if the Old Soldier could afford cable, he still wouldn’t get it because he is not going to pay for 50 stations when he’s only interested in four or five.

One of the things that my friends who do have cable constantly complain about is that they have to pay for stations that they never or hardly ever watch and the stations that carry movies play the same movies over and over again for weeks at a time.

Then there is the fact that most people who have cable are too busy living their lives and they don’t have enough time to watch enough television to get their money’s worth out of cable.

The Old Soldier has a converter box and that’s all that he needs.

So, why do people pay for cable?  I guess they don’t want to miss anything, even if they don’t have time to watch everything.  And they are willing and can afford to pay big time for that option.

Now they can pay for satellite television, too.

Writing haikus is great training for a flash fiction writer.  Each haiku tells a story.  You get in.  You get out.  That’s what it’s all about.

It’s around 10:30 at night and the Old Soldier has taken up his favorite position: stretched out on the sofa with two fat pillows under his weary head.  The retro-movie channel is on television.  I have my books on the Vietnam War, on Occupy Wall Street and on Columbus to keep me company.  And there is plenty of ice water and several cans of some energy drink in the refrigerator to quench my thirst.

No money for beer until next week.  Sobriety is good discipline.

I did have my fish fry today.  I ate a delicious fish sandwich and put the rest of the cooked fish in the refrigerator for another day.

I think I’ll go to bed early.

Oh, the Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette has over 5,800 hits for February and we still have five days left in this month.

You can’t beat that with a stick!

Writing: A Porn Star Is Born

Montoya Fishburne

Montoya Fishburne, the daughter of award-winning actor Lawrence Fishburne, caused a scandal and media sensation when she starred in her first porn movie and stated publicly that she had always wanted to do porn.

Hello, my brother and sister bloggers, writers, University of Pittsburgh community, fans on Twitter and Facebook and my Flash Fiction Fanatics.  The Old Soldier has tackled the porn industry in a short story titled “A Porn Star Is Born.”

After researching the porn industry, I tried to capture why a young woman would want to make a career of making porn movies.  To have the story delivered to your inbox, click on the “A Porn Star Is Born” tab at the top of the page.

This is the Old Soldier blogging out of Pittsburgh.
