As a small, online niche publisher, I have to be my own publicity department.

Hello, world!

This is the Old Soldier celebrating life and writing.  This little flash fiction blog is packed with fiction and content about how to write flash fiction.  It covers the cultural scene here in Little Italy in Pittsburgh.

It has a department on crock pot cooking and on karaoke as performance art.

It reports on why women who do not want to be porn actresses agree to be in online adult videos.

It supports writers with tips, encouragement and publication.  This publication is a paying market.

You can’t beat this blog with a stick!

Take advantage of this wonderful source of entertainment and art.  Explore the site.  And keep reading and keep writing that flash fiction.

Experience A New Kind Of Short Story Blog For Writers

Welcome to my short story blog.  I’m the Old Soldier, the editor/publisher.  If you are open to good writing and brazen sexuality in the same online publication, you are in for a unique reading experience.

I’m a short story writer myself.  I know what a writer must go through to get his or her work done.  That’s why I publish the short stories of other writers.  That’s why this publication is a paying market.

But this publication is about a lot more than writing.  It’s about art.  It’s about life.

Welcome to the Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette.  As an editor/publisher, I’ve been influenced by many people.  At the top of the list are Andy Warhol, David Letterman, Hue Hefner and Lady Gaga.  Check out the front page and you will see exactly what I mean.

Keep reading and keep writing.

The Old Soldier has been a writer for over forty years.  I know what life is like for most writers.

My greatest accomplishment as a writer was being awarded a K. LeRoy Irvis Fellowship that paid for my MFA at the University of Pittsburgh and gave me a generous stipend to live off of for my three years of graduate school.

Regular readers of this blog may be tired of this story, but I like to repeat it because 70% of visitors to a site are new to the site.  I hope my regular readers will forgive me.

But I’m trying to make an important point that needs to be made often: success for 99% of all serious writers does not mean national recognition and an income you can live on.

Success for the 99% (like me) means exposure in what are called small publications (like this one) and a few dollars here and there.

I mean just because you’re good-looking does not mean you’re going to be a movie star.  The Old Soldier is all right looking, but he always wanted to be the frontman for a bad ass rock ‘n’ roll band.  Now I’m a performance artist (karaoke).

But I do consider myself a success as a writer.  I got my MFA and I edit and publish the most exciting flash fiction magazine on the Internet; which allows me to publish other talented writers.
