One of the things that’s wonderful about being a writer, I mean a serious writer, is that we love to read. We love to write. And we love to create.
There are writers out there who don’t read. They don’t read newspapers (online or print); they don’t read magazines or fiction. They don’t understand that reading is the foundation of being a writer, a writer who wants to create.
Hi, it’s the Old Soldier here, the editor/publisher of this blog. I would like to speak to the aspiring writers in the audience.
Creative writing is a craft. You learn it the same way you learn any craft: from the bottom up and from the inside out.
You learn the basics. You constantly improve your skills. You build your portfolio.
You learn to persevere. You make sure that your income does not depend on your writing. You constantly study your craft. All of these things are what it means to be a serious writer.
