Started out for the big supermarket eight blocks away.  Noon.  Very hot.  The streets were nearly empty.  It was a holiday.  He came out and stood against the door frame.  A baby boomer like me.  I crossed the street.

“Alex.”

“Guy.”

“Any green peppers?”

“Sure.”

I bought two green peppers, one onion and three sodas.

“Business pretty slow, huh?”

“What can you do?”

I was glad that before I left another customer came in.

Celebrating This Labor Day

I wrote this post in my notebook as I sat in the lobby of my apartment building and I looked out at the foot and motor traffic on the avenue.  It’s around 10:30 AM, the day windy and rainy.

The apartment building is very quiet.  I wonder where everyone is.  I don’t want to wait too long before going across the street for some supplies.  Since this is Labor Day, the store across the street will probably close early.  There seems to be a lot of motor traffic on the avenue for this to be a holiday.

I guess Labor Day is not a major holiday.

Keep reading flash fiction and keep writing.

There is so much going on in the world, so many bad things, that the Old Soldier sometimes thinks blogging is a waste of time; but then if I stop blogging will things get better?

So, I will keep blogging.  And I will keep writing.  We all have to believe in something.  I believe in blogging and writing.  Those too things may seem trivial to you for things to believe in, but everyone has to believe in something and blogging and writing sustain me.

If blogging and writing help to sustain you, welcome to the Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette, the most dynamic flash fiction blog on the Internet.  Read the content.  Download the Ebook.  Feel the excitement of writing and reading flash fiction.

There are still good things in the world to be thankful for.
