More Creative Ideas, Serious Writing And Brazen Sexuality

Woman As Art

Recently, a friend of mine on Facebook suggested to me that there was no need for the Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette to offer so much brazen sexuality if the creative ideas and serious writing were good enough.

That would be like me telling Lady Gaga to stop acting and dressing so outrageously and just to sing.

Needless to say, my Facebook friend is neither an entertainer or the publisher of an online magazine.

Next month the Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette will be four years old.  And it will continue to focus on creative ideas, serious writing and brazen sexuality.

Check out the front page and you will see immediately what I mean.

Notes From The Flash Fiction Underground (June 12, 2012)

Woman As Art

The disturbed woman down the hall has been quiet this morning.  No screaming and no constantly banging shut her door.  Yesterday, the police did not take her away.  I talked to one of the staff who works in the office on the first floor and apparently it is not that easy to evict someone even if the person is a nuisense to those around her.

The woman’s rent is paid up to the end of this month.  Maybe management will get her out then.

Hello, world!  It’s the Old Soldier reporting from Pittsburgh.  The high will be around 80 degrees on a cloudy day with the possibility of scattered thunder showers.

Yesterday, I received a soft-covered copy of my book that I ordered from my publisher.  A local bookstore said it will carry it.  I think I will sell the book at a discount, maybe $1.50.  The Old Soldier will get %60 of the cover price.  I’ll lose money, but the idea is to promote the Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette.  The URL of the magazine will be inside the book in a prominent place.

Now that the Old Soldier has working-class financial stability, the next step is be smart about his stable but limited income.  Here are some things I plan to do and that may give you some ideas about getting the most out of your income if you are a senior citizen on a very limited income like me.

In the State of Pennsylvania, if you are at least 65 years old (like me) and within a certain income range you are eligible for a one month rent re-bate (homeowners are eligible, too).  One of the places to get the necessary form to apply for this rebate is at a Senior Citizens Center.

Even though I no longer worry about losing my apartment, I’m still always one month behind in my rent.  I pay a $50 penalty every month.  The rent rebate form for 2011 (when I turned 65) will be available some time this month.

As soon as I get my rebate I’ll catch my rent up and I won’t have to pay that $50 penalty as long as I pay my rent on time.

If you are at least 65 years old in Pennsylvania you can ride the bus system for free.  Just take the proper documentation to the nearest public transportation office.

That’s something that I have to do.

Finally, buy in bulk whenever you can.  A roll of toilet paper may cost $1.10; but a twelve pack of toilet paper may cost you only $8.00 or $9.00.
