The Old Soldier has had a busy day. I got off a nice long post earlier this morning. Then instead of taking a walk down to the main campus of the University of Pittsburgh and through Schenley Park to find the house where Andy Warhol grew up I decided to visit my younger brother in the assistant living facility that he is in about a 30-minute walk from my apartment building.
I had my plastic water bottle full of ice and I sipped on it as I enjoyed the warm weather and the sunshine.
He didn’t have much to say. I guess when you live in a place like he does for so many years you get pretty isolated. I’m 65 and live on my own but it is a constant struggle for me not to get isolated. If you are retired with limited funds it’s easy to get isolated. That’s why when I do have the funds I attend karaoke on Friday nights at Del’s and I’m really looking forward to becoming more involved with The Big Idea Bookstore and Cafe that is only a few blocks from my apartment building and carries the only book I’ve ever written.
After I left my brother the Old Soldier marched back to his apartment, scraped together a few dollars and then marched in to Bloomfield (Pittsburgh’s Little Italy) and had a couple of beers at Armand’s at the bar as he watched a little of an Eddie Murphy film he had never seen before.
Then I marched back to my apartment to put up this post. That was a lot of marching in the hot sun, but it got me out of the house and gave me something to blog about.

The J.P. Morgan Chase Two Billion Dollar Fiasco
The mainstream media is reporting that J.P. Morgan Chase of New York has recently lost two billion dollars through its London office and the CEO of the company knows nothing about it.
And you thought the Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette was just about sex.

The Old Soldier is a senior citizen, retired. I am only a casual observer of the international financial scene like most of the readers of this magazine; but I do know that every time one of these Wall Street banks makes a risky bet on making profits and loses money big time, it means that we on Main Street get fucked!
