A Sexy New Short Story To Read

Yes, the Old Soldier finished a new flash fiction story last night.  I want to do just a little blogging before we get to writing.

It’s around 10:00 a.m. in Pittsburgh and the sun is trying to peek out from the clouds.  I have to call my sister today to find out where Mom is so I can wish Mom a happy Mother’s Day.  The last I heard Mom was in California with my brother and his wife.  I can’t afford to phone California if Mom is back in Pittsburgh…

The soup I cooked in the crock pot a couple of days ago gets better every day.  It has in it onions, boneless beef chunk ribs, diced carrots, a sprinkling of lima beans, beef stock from the supermarket and of course seasoning.  Mumm good.  And so easy…

Okay, now for the story.  Every writer goes through the same agony trying to come up with ideas to write about.  Last night I was stretched out on the sofa watching an old Lana Turner movie on tape with my notebook on my stomach and two pencils, a pencil sharpener and a tin astray on the floor.  It’s how I work.  All the beer was gone.

What to write about.  What to write about.  The usual suspects: relationships, love, sex, war, family, men, women…

Cooking With Beef Stock

When you’re a writer in Pittsburgh on Social Security like I am you want to cook food that’s easy, that’s nutritious and not too expensive.  Let me suggest using store bought soup stock and your crock pot to make soup.  Soup is the easiest meal to make this side of cold cereal.

This morning I threw 64 oz of beef stock, dice onions and six meaty chunks of boneless beef ribs into my crock pot.  I put in seasoning.  I turned the dial to high.  About three hours later I added a can of diced carrots and half an hour later lunch was ready.  Cold beer and hot soup go well together.  This soup will last me for a week.

Here’s a story that involves beer and hot wings.  Woman, Wife and Lover (A Short Story) www.authspot.com/Short-Stories/Woman-Wife-and-Lover-fiction.622331

Food And The Slow Cooker

The crock pot is a great invention.  Throw in your meat, vegetables and seasoning and forget about it.  Life in Pittsburgh is good.

This Sunday morning I’m fixing lima beans.  My lima beans have been soaking over night.  I’ll put the lima beans in the crock pot along with cut up red pepper, onion, carrots and four whole smoked ham hocks for flavor.  I have some small red potatoes that have been in the fridge forever so before they go bad I’ll throw them in, too.  Put the dial on low and forget about it.

When I’m ready for dinner, dinner will be ready for me.
