If the Old Soldier has said it once, the Old Soldier has said it a thousand times: “Sex is a serious subject for the serious flash fiction writer to write about.”
You better believe it.
Hello hello hello, my brother and sister readers and writers. It’s around 9:30 AM in Pittsburgh, the beginning of another beautiful summer day of blogging. Now that the US House has passed a bill to avoid default, it’s up to the Senate to pass it, too. It’s a good thing I don’t run this blog the way our politicians run our government.
But enough about politicians. This blog is about writers.
If you want to write better flash fiction about sex, keep these things in mind.
- The best sex stories are really not about sex but are about relationships.
- Characterization is just as important as the sex.
- Make sure you are writing a short story and not just a sex scene.
You will find several excellent examples of what I’m talking about at the Sexy Stories tab at the top of the page.

Democrats, Republicans And Knuckelheads
Leadership (Photo credit: glennharper)
The American people have spoken. What is the message? That we want the President, the Congress and the Senate to work together to solve the pressing problems of our country. That “compromise” is not a dirty word.
And that President Obama’s vision of America is supported by the majority of the nation. He handily won the votes of the Electorial College and the popular vote.
This does not mean that the leadership of the Democratic Party can ignore the core concerns of the Republican Party. But it does mean that the American people have rejected the uncompromising positions of the knuckleheads of both parties and that Barack Obama’s leadership and vision of America, that we are all in this together, still inspires hope in most of us.
The first test for our leaders are the mandatory, mindless cuts across the board and the expiration of the Bush-era tax cuts.

If these cuts and the expiration go into effect in January, everyone agrees that the US will be thrown into another recession; which will probably drag the rest of the world into recession with us.
This is the Old Soldier blogging out of Pittsburgh.
