I’ve read many reports about editors overwhelmed with submissions.  Well, the evil day has finally arrived here at the Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette.

I have writers scheduled for publication into June.

So, as of today this blog will no longer accept unsolicited submissions.

But the Old Soldier is still committed to showcasing writing talent.  This is what I plan to do.

Once I’ve published all of the work that I’m already committed to publish, I’ll open up submissions again to writers who have never been published on this blog.

I don’t know for how long submissions will be opened.  Maybe it will be for only a few months later this year.  We’ll see what happens.

But as of today, submissions will be sent back unopened.

As for writers who have already had work published in this magazine, I will solicit work from you.  In other words, don’t email the Old Soldier.  The Old Soldier will email you.  And I definitely intend to keep working with many of you, especially those who have had work published here in the past few months.

Writers, Opportunities For You In 2013

Honestly, I have to tell you the Old Soldier is holding his breath.  Why?  Because this publication is still averaging around 1,025 views every day which means that there is a real possibility that it will end December 2012 with more than 30,000 views, the most views for one month that this magazine has ever gotten in its four years of publication.  Last month it got a little more than 25,000 views.

The word is getting out about the excitement of the reading experience here at the Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette.

Sure, there are other online publications that cover the adult industry.  Sure, there are other online publications that have naked women.  Sure, there are other online publications that publish flash fiction.

But they don’t publish reports on karaoke.  They don’t publish reports on blogging.  They don’t publish articles on how to write flash fiction.  They don’t publish reports about being retired (I’m 66).  They don’t pay their guest writers.  They don’t publish haiku poetry.  They don’t publish commentaries about life, writing and the top news stories of the day.  And even if they do all these things, you will definitely not find all of these things in the same publication.  You will find all these things right here on this little blog.

And writers, this is a real opportunity for you to get published.  You are what the Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette is all about.  Read and follow the submission guidelines and send me something.  The competition is fierce.  Send only your best.  Good luck.

Writers, No Subject Is Too Long For Flash Fiction

Woman As Art

We all know that flash fiction is short.  The beauty of flash fiction is how much you can say in so few words.

Let’s take the subject of a good marriage.  A flash fiction writer can’t cover the entire marriage; but what the flash fiction writer can do is to capture a significant moment that is representative of the marriage.

See what I mean?
