The Little Things That Make You A Better Blogger

We all know that content is king.  We all know that you should adopt a blogging schedule that you can keep.  We all know that you should offer useful information/suggestions or entertainment or both.

But what about the little things that a blogger can do to bring more traffic to his or her blog?

Be creative people.  Each of us can bring something to the table.  This is what I do.

There is a bookstore a few blocks from my apartment that carries print copies of my self-published paperback book.  I actually sell the book at a discount; but guess what?  The Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette and its URL are on the second page along with an invitation to visit my blog.

And I’m always ready to whip out one of my Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette business cards that also have the URL of my blog on it.  I’m a good karaoke singer and I especially like passing out my blogger’s business card at karaoke.

So, my brother and sister bloggers, what are some of the little things that you do to increase traffic to your blog?  This blog is averaging around 900 views every day for January 2013.

This is the Old Soldier blogging out of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Blogs, Erotica And Brazil Loves Flash Fiction

Woman As Art

Hello hello hello, all my brother and sister bloggers, readers and writers from all over the world!  Let’s get right to today’s edition of the most exciting flash fiction magazine on the Internet.

Blogs

This publication reports on how to build a better blog.  The tips on how to do this are for those bloggers who want to get as much traffic as possible, just like the Old Soldier.  Every blogger is not concerned about traffic.  But if you want as much traffic as possible, I would like to add this important piece of advice.

The URL of your blog should end in .com.  If it doesn’t you should probably upgrade your blog so that its URL does end in .com.  The search engines are far more likely to index your blog if it does.

In other words you do not want your URL to look like http://myblog.wordpress.com.  You want it to look like this http://myblog.com.

WordPress is a great blogging platform for free blogs and for upgrading your blog.  My upgrade to .com only cost $17 a year.

Erotica

This magazine is a paying market for literary, mainstream and erotic flash fiction.  In the best erotic flash fiction, or at least the erotica that is showcased in this magazine, characterization, description, motivation and storyline are just as important as the sex.

Brazil Loves Flash Fiction

The Old Soldier must be doing something right.  Within the past two days, the Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette has gotten over 200 hits from Brazil.

You can’t beat that with a stick!

Be sure to check the front page sometime tomorrow for a new “The Sunday Flash Fiction Story.”  You could check the front page right now to make sure you haven’t missed anything.

Keep reading and keep writing that flash fiction.

Notes From The Flash Fiction Underground (June 12, 2012)

Woman As Art

The disturbed woman down the hall has been quiet this morning.  No screaming and no constantly banging shut her door.  Yesterday, the police did not take her away.  I talked to one of the staff who works in the office on the first floor and apparently it is not that easy to evict someone even if the person is a nuisense to those around her.

The woman’s rent is paid up to the end of this month.  Maybe management will get her out then.

Hello, world!  It’s the Old Soldier reporting from Pittsburgh.  The high will be around 80 degrees on a cloudy day with the possibility of scattered thunder showers.

Yesterday, I received a soft-covered copy of my book that I ordered from my publisher.  A local bookstore said it will carry it.  I think I will sell the book at a discount, maybe $1.50.  The Old Soldier will get %60 of the cover price.  I’ll lose money, but the idea is to promote the Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette.  The URL of the magazine will be inside the book in a prominent place.
